Schenectady Dog Training Club, Inc.Exploring the potential of both you and your dog.

Schenectady Dog Training Club, Inc. formed in 1951. Membership has grown steadily due to the ever increasing interest in dog obedience and agility training. In the spring of 1951, 18 people took part in the first beginner class, held in a member’s backyard. We now own 20 acres of land in West Glenville, NY and offer training classes in Obedience, Agility and Rally Obedience.

While the primary goal for those joining our club is often simply a well-socialized, well-behaved family pet, many of our members go on to participate in various community activities such as demonstrations, parades, educational programs, rescue and therapy dog work. A significant number are active in obedience, agility, rally obedience or other competitive, titling events. Other club activities include member-only matches in which all members have an opportunity to earn club plaques, sanctioned matches open to the public, and licensed trials in agility, obedience and rally obedience.

SDTC offers classes in Basic Obedience as well as all levels of AKC competition, Obedience, Agility, and Rally.  Occasionally, classes in Nose Fun and Canine Good Citizen/Therapy Dog are offered.

Obedience and Rally classes run for 8 weeks; Agility classes for 6 weeks and all are generally offered four times a year starting in January, April, July and October.

See Calendar for exact start dates.

You do not need to be a member of the Club to train with us.

All dogs are welcome.  We do not require that dogs be neutered or spayed, but if a female is in season, the dog cannot attend class. We cannot accept or maintain dogs that are aggressive towards people or other dogs.  We do not offer behavior modification for those dogs, but we will suggest information for contacting a Certified Dog Trainer to assist you with those concerns.
